The Town of Fort Frances has a variety of committees that are working constantly to serve you better. Below is a list of all recent meetings that you can review. Click on the meeting name to review the details of that meeting. Once this page opens you will also be able to review details from other meetings of the same type.

The Fort Frances Senior Centre Board of Management makes recommendations and advises Council through the Community Services Executive Committee on matters relating to the Fort Frances Senior Centre.

 

The Fort Frances Senior Centre Board of Management is an advisory committee to Council of the Town of Fort Frances and reports to the Community Services Executive Committee.

 

The Fort Frances Senior Centre Board of Management is responsible for helping provide programming recommendations for the Fort Frances Senior Centre.

The Economic Development Executive Committee will provide advice and recommendations to the Council and Administration of the Town of Fort Frances on matters related to community economic development, including:
• Investment attraction and investment readiness
• Business development
• Tourism development and marketing
• Business retention and expansion
• Economic development projects
• Strategic planning for community and regional economic development
• Capacity building
• Other matters as specifically directed by Mayor and Council
Council's role is to represent the public and to consider the well-being and interests of the municipality. Town of Fort Frances Committee of the Whole meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday of each month. Meetings are held in Council  Chambers at 320 Portage Avenue, Fort Frances.  Requests for delegations should be submitted on the required application form and submitted to the Clerk's office before 12noon local time on the Thursday prior to the meeting.
The primary function of Police Services Board (PSB) is to determine priorities and objectives for police services within the community. This must be done in consultation with the Detachment Commander, but input should be received from council, municipal staff, and police officers assigned to the community, as well as the public.

The Town of Fort Frances is governed by the Police Services Act. The relationship between the board and the municipal council is important. It is the council that enters into the written contract with the OPP and is responsible for the financial commitment
Council's role is to represent the public and to consider the well-being and interests of the municipality. Town of Fort Frances Regular Council meetings are scheduled to immediately follow the Committee of the Whole meetings on the second and fourth Monday of each month. Meetings are held in Committee Room / Council  Chambers at 320 Portage Avenue, Fort Frances.

The Head of Council may at any time summon a special meeting of Committee of the Whole on 48 hours notice to the Members of Council, or upon receipt of a petition of the majority of Members of Council, the Clerk shall summon a special meeting for the purpose and time mentioned.  The only business to be dealt with at a special meeting is that which is listed in the notice of the meeting.

 

Notwithstanding the notice requirement set out above, in the event of a bonafide emergency the meeting may be held as soon as practicable following receipt of summons/petition, as the case may be, and notice may be given by telephone or personal contact as determined by the Clerk.

The Inaugural Meeting of New Council will take place on the first Monday in December (December 3) at 7:00pm in Council Chambers, 320 Portage Avenue, Fort Frances.

The Operations & Facilities Executive Committee (OFEC) will work closely with and assist the Division Manager on Corporate Operations & Facilities matters as appropriate, including but not limited to: Airport, Cemeteries, Parks, Public Works, Streetlights, Water, Sewer & Storm Sewer Systems and Traffic Safety.

 

The Operations & Facilities Executive Committee will also be delegated Corporate Operations & Facilities matters from Council meetings from time to time.  The Committee may make recommendations and/or resolve matters as may be specifically directed by Council.

The Administration & Finance Executive Committee (AFEC) will work closely with and assist the CAO and Treasurer on Corporate Administration and Finance matters as appropriate.

 

The Administration & Finance Executive Committee will also be delegated Corporate Administration & Finance matters from Council meetings from time to time. The Committee may make recommendations and/or resolve matters as may be specifically directed by Council.

The Community Services Executive Committee (CSEC) will work closely with and assist the Division Manager on Corporate Community Services matters as appropriate, including but not limited to: Elderly Persons Centre, Library, Museum, Recreation and Transit Services.

 

The Community Services Executive Committee will also be delegated Corporate Community Services matters from Council meetings from time to time.  The Committee may make recommendations and/or resolve matters as may be specifically directed by Council. 

The Planning & Development Executive Committee (PDEC) will work closely with and assist the CAO (or designate) on Corporate Planning and Development matters as appropriate, including but not limited to: Building Services, By-law Enforcement, Animal Control, Planning, Committee of Adjustment and Property Standards.

 

The Planning & Development Executive Committee will also be delegated Corporate Planning & Development matters from Council meetings from time to time.  The Committee may make recommendations and/or resolve matters as may be specifically directed by Council. 
The Committee of Adjustment reviews Minor Variance and Consent (Severance Applications). The Committee of Adjustment determines whether it is desirable for the appropriate development or use of the land, building or structure and whether the general intent and purpose of the zoning by-law and the official plan are being maintained.

Citizen of the Year Committee

Every fall, the Town of Fort Frances accepts nominations for the Citizen of the Year.  This award recognizes the efforts of an individual who contributes to making the Town of Fort Frances a great place to live.

  

The candidate recommended by the Citizen of the Year Committee and approved by Council will be identified/recognized at a regular meeting of Council.

Moffat Family Fund Steering Committee

Annually, our community has the good fortune of being endowed with charitable funding through the Winnipeg Foundation's Moffat Family Fund.  The aim of this funding is to support and advance the economic, social, physical and intellectual well being of children and families in the community.

 

The committee accepts individuals and organizations affiliated with a Registered Charity to submit written requests for funding.

The Museum Advisory Committee makes recommendations to Council on policies and procedures relating to Fort Frances Museum and Cultural Centre.

The Museum Advisory Committee is an advisory committee to Council of the Town of Fort Frances and reports to the Community Services Executive Committee.

The Museum Advisory Committee is responsible for:

  • Developing working relationships with various groups and organizations to promote the museum
  • Providing advice on the acquisition, preservation and exhibition of items in the museum's collection
 
Fort Frances Public Library Board

In accordance with the Public Libraries Act s. 9(1), the FFPL Board shall be composed of at least five members appointed by the Municipal Council at the first meeting of Municipal Council in each term.

 

The purpose of the FFPL Board is to govern the affairs of the FFPLTC in service to the community.
